diluting e-liquid
« on: June 08, 2012, 09:04:40 PM »
Hi, I am very new to vaping and i just received my kit along with 24mg PG e-liquid. But i am getting headache and really sore throat. I think it may be the nicotine strentgh too high for me. I dont have anything but menthol and tobacco 24mg PG. Is there anything i can add to dilute them, until i can order some different strengths? Would adding water ruin it? i HAVE read somewhere you can, but i want to check with some knowledgeable vapers if this is the case. Sorry if this sounds a dumb question, but as i said, i am a virgin to the e-cig world!!!

You could order the same juice at 12mg and mix it 50/50 and you will end up with 18 mg juice , or add 2 parts 24 mg to 1 part 0 mg pg or VG which would result in 16mg juice :-).  I would not cut it any further with water .

You can cut VG by 20% but I would not cut premixed pg/VG e juice with water or it may be too runny.

Ah ok.  Well, I have got dekang from vapour-room.com. It says on label, it is PG 'base' Does that mean it is 100% PG or a PG/VG mix? I saw on another site that a dekang PG base was 80/20 mix?

The general rule was premix was typically 80/20 PG/VG , but it's been years since I bought premix so I am not sure abt what the current rule would be.

I tend to find VG is much more soother on the throat. Id get some from boots and put a few ml in.
there are some good mixing calculators out there, i cant read instructions well so i just half or quarter everything 8)

Adding just VG to the premixed may well sweeten it up and increase vapour. I find too much VG gets a little bit too sweet for me so I stay under 30%.

The ideal way would be to have a bottle with 80% PG and 20% VG. You could use this blend to tame down your premixed. 50/50 would halve the nic and the flavour. I have often done this with some 36mg liquid I didn't like, (generally Tobacco flavours that are too harsh). You could then also tint the flavour with another flavour concentrate. Tobacco flavours mix well with others, most of the time.
