Planning my first mod : Mini Vivi Nova
« on: September 18, 2012, 02:50:28 PM »
I got couple of mini vivi novas. I liked them initially then the weird taste started so i am planning to add a mesh wick and new wire.  So i am planning to get -

0.2mm Nickel Chrome Wire

from https://www.wires.co.uk

and

Super Fine #325 Stainless Steel Woven Wire Mesh - 0.036mm Wire Diameter

from http://www.themeshcompany.com

do you guy think it is ok and a good idea?

those are correct in terms of a genny atty, though #400 mesh is perhaps more common than the #325.

the same wire but glass fibre wick, might better suit the nova rebuild.

yes ... that is what would likely be resident in a new nova ...
it can be bought from various vendors, this one being perhaps the best based both on availability and price:

Thanks. Ordered a pack.
I feel the wick on the nova is crappy, i took it out and it split into small threads. Maybe i will roll the mesh wick over the new fiber one.

I've used steel mesh (400) twice already in my Vivi Nova with 32 ga wire.  Works well for me, nice flavor and long lasting. But I get a resistance of 1.2 - 1.5 can't seem to get any higher.
I do cotton wicks in a pinch, but they seem to only last 3 days before they start tasting nasty.
Here's a nice tutorial on the subject:

Using thicker wire or more coil rounds should give more resistance shouldnt it?

Should, it's such a confined space to work in, it's hard to see.  I start out with 2.0-2.5 ohms, but by the time I cap & vape it, the ohms usually drops.  I'm using a Kicked device so the constant wattage helps.

Thanks all.
Ordered all my supplies and waiting to do this mod.
Will post pics and success rate once done!
Hope it works out. I hate what the mini nova tastes in 4 days of vaping.

Haven't got my mesh yet, got wires and some fiberglass wick. Did the first mod any way.

it is 1.2 ohms, so vaping at 3 v. Any suggestions on how to get the impedance higher?

More turns on the coil or use 0.15 wire and 4 raps

Success!

impedance - 2.1-2.2 ohms

Device - VV Gripper @ 4.2 volts

Vapor - quite a lot

Flavor - Good

Tries - 8

Number of raps - 5/6

Number of coils turning red - 2.5
